Following the Great Migration North
Eight days give this journey something shorter migration safaris rarely have: time.
Begin with a relaxed arrival in Arusha before travelling through the elephant country of Tarangire National Park and onwards to the vast plains of the Serengeti. From Central Serengeti, follow the wildlife north towards the Mara River, dedicating two days to the landscapes associated with the northern phase of the Great Migration.
The journey then turns south through the Serengeti towards Ngorongoro Crater, where an extraordinary concentration of resident wildlife provides a completely different safari experience. Your final day leaves the game-drive tracks behind for a short hike to Materuni Waterfalls and a local coffee experience beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.

DAY ONE · ARRIVAL IN ARUSHA
Welcome to Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, meet your guide and transfer to your accommodation in Arusha.
After checking in, receive a short briefing about the journey ahead. Depending on your arrival time, there is also an opportunity to explore Arusha and get a first glimpse of everyday life in northern Tanzania before settling in for the evening.

DAY TWO · TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Among Elephants & Baobabs
After breakfast, leave Arusha and travel approximately two and a half hours towards Tarangire National Park.
Enter a distinctive landscape of open wilderness, immense baobab trees and the Tarangire River, an important water source for wildlife during the dry season. The park is especially celebrated for its elephants, while giraffes, lions, buffalo, zebras and wildebeest are also regularly encountered.
Spend the day exploring before continuing to Marera Valley Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

DAY THREE · CENTRAL SERENGETI
Into the Endless Plains
Today is dedicated to the legendary Central Serengeti.
Spend the day game driving across a landscape supporting an extraordinary abundance of wildlife, from elephants and buffalo to hippos, wildebeest and zebra. Predators are another highlight, with lions, cheetahs and leopards among the species your guide will search for.
The Great Migration moves through different parts of the ecosystem according to rainfall and grazing conditions, while Central Serengeti remains rewarding for resident wildlife throughout the year.
Later, settle into your tented camp inside the park for your first night in the Serengeti.

DAY FOUR · NORTHERN SERENGETI
Following the Herds North
After an early breakfast, begin travelling northwest through the Serengeti, following wildlife movements towards the northern reaches of the park.
Your game drive focuses around the Mara River, where migrating herds may gather during the northern migration season. Your guide will use current wildlife movements to determine the day’s exploration, searching for wildebeest and zebra as well as the predators that follow them.
If timing and nature align, you may witness one of the migration’s famous river crossings. These events are entirely wild and unpredictable, making every encounter unique.
Spend the night in Northern Serengeti.

DAY FIVE · NORTHERN TO CENTRAL SERENGETI
One More Morning with the Migration
Begin with another morning game drive in Northern Serengeti, when cooler temperatures often bring increased wildlife activity.
Return towards the Mara River area in search of the migrating herds and signs of their latest movements. Lions and hyenas frequently follow the concentrations of wildebeest, while elephants, giraffes and abundant birdlife add to the diversity of the northern landscape.
Later, turn south and travel back towards Central Serengeti for dinner and your overnight stay.

Mara River Migration Game Drive

DAY SIX · SERENGETI TO NGORONGORO
From Endless Plains to Ancient Highlands
After an early breakfast, enjoy another game drive as you travel south through the Serengeti towards Seronera.
Continue exploring throughout the day before eventually leaving the park in the late afternoon. The sweeping plains gradually give way to the cooler and more elevated landscapes of the Ngorongoro highlands.
Arrive at Ang’ata Ngorongoro Camp for dinner and a peaceful evening close to the crater.

DAY SEVEN · NGORONGORO CRATER
Into Africa’s Natural Amphitheatre
After breakfast, descend into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater.
Surrounded by crater walls rising approximately 600 metres, this remarkable landscape supports an exceptional concentration of resident wildlife. Spend the day searching for lions, buffalo, elephants, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas and the endangered black rhino.
After your crater experience, ascend into the highlands and travel back towards Arusha for your final overnight stay.

DAY EIGHT · MATERUNI WATERFALLS
Beneath Kilimanjaro
The final day trades the safari vehicle for the green foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
After breakfast, travel to Materuni Waterfalls for an approximately two-hour hike through lush vegetation and beautiful highland scenery to the falls.
Afterwards, continue to a local coffee farm to discover the area’s coffee traditions and enjoy lunch before transferring to the airport for your onward journey. It is a gentle, completely different finale after several days among the great wildlife landscapes of northern Tanzania.
