DAY ONE · INTO THE RAINFOREST
Where the Mountain Begins
Your Kilimanjaro journey begins at Machame Gate, where you meet the mountain crew and complete the final park formalities. Step beneath the dense rainforest canopy and follow a winding trail through giant ferns, moss-covered trees and rich mountain vegetation. The steady ascent offers a gentle introduction to the days ahead before arriving at Machame Camp for your first night beneath Kilimanjaro’s slopes.

DAY TWO · INTO THE MOORLAND
Above the Forest
Leave the rainforest behind as the trail climbs into Kilimanjaro’s open heath and moorland. The landscape becomes wider and more dramatic, revealing your first expansive views of Kibo and the surrounding valleys. Continue across rocky ridges and volcanic terrain towards Shira Plateau, where the day ends at Shira Camp beneath an enormous African sky.

DAY THREE · CLIMB HIGH, SLEEP LOW
Beneath the Lava Tower
Today is an important acclimatization day. Ascend through increasingly barren alpine terrain towards the striking Lava Tower at approximately 4,600 metres, allowing your body to adjust gradually to the altitude. After reaching the day’s highest point, descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley. The dramatic Barranco Wall rises above camp while glaciers crown the mountain beyond.

DAY FOUR · THE SOUTHERN CIRCUIT
Beyond the Barranco Wall
Begin the morning with one of Machame Route’s defining moments, the ascent of the spectacular Barranco Wall. The trail twists through the rock face before opening onto magnificent views across Kilimanjaro’s southern slopes. Continue through a succession of valleys and ridges along the Southern Circuit before descending into Karanga Valley and making the final climb to camp.

DAY FIVE · TOWARDS BASE CAMP
At the Edge of the Sky
Leave Karanga behind and climb steadily into Kilimanjaro’s stark alpine desert. Vegetation gradually disappears as the trail approaches Barafu, the mountain’s principal southern summit base. Arrive with time to rest, organize your equipment and prepare mentally for the climb ahead. After an early dinner and briefing from your guides, settle in for a few precious hours of rest before the midnight summit departure.

DAY SIX · THE SUMMIT
To the Roof of Africa
Shortly after midnight, begin the most demanding and rewarding chapter of the journey. Climb slowly through the darkness towards Stella Point as dawn begins to illuminate Kilimanjaro’s glaciers. Continue along the crater rim until you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing down through changing landscapes to Mweka Camp.

DAY SEVEN · BACK TO THE FOREST
The Mountain Farewell
Your final morning begins with a peaceful descent into Kilimanjaro’s lush montane rainforest. Follow the trail beneath an increasingly dense canopy as the warmer air signals your return to the mountain’s lower slopes. At Mweka Gate, complete the final park formalities and receive your summit certificate before saying farewell to the mountain crew and transferring back to your hotel for a well-earned rest.
